Took's Animals: An Art-O-Mat Collaboration

Took Gallagher sent me a box of 100 cute animals traced onto blocks in which I get to color. It is a collaboration of work that will be sold in Art O Mat machines across the country. I am following in the footsteps of artist Juana Moore, who previously did a similar collaboration with Took for Art O Mat. The project is called Penciled In. At that website you can see photos of their great collaborations, and see what Juana did with the similar blocks that I am working with. I got to see a batch of Juana & Took's blocks in person, and I can say I was very inspired to work on my own batch.

The photo above and below were drawn and designed by Took, and I added all the color.

I currently have a 4th (25 of 100) of the batch done, and try to get a few done each night. I am using prismacolor colored pencils almost exclusively. This has been a fun switch from my bearded bunnies, which is the series I typically submit to Art O Mat. I have sold over 1000 bunnies to Art O Mat since 2005, and the bunnies have been sold all across the country. Chubby Creature Figure

One of my favorite things to create with clay; is figurines. I love drawing
chubby creatures and I love making them out of clay. I think part of this is due to my love of action figures as a kid. Holding little characters and having battles with them was one of my favorite hobbies as a young boy. This little ceramic figure is a spin off of some of my sketch ideas. I did just post another green tailed figure for you to see.

This red and black figure was created with air dry clay, and painted with acrylic paints and black markers. I tried a few different designs on him before ending with this pattern. It does have a clear gloss coat to give him a little luster. The guy is about 3-4 inches long, and 2-3 inches tall. The figure was build piece by piece and then slipped and scored into place.

I have been inclined to draw pictures of chubby creatures ever since I first saw an episode of Pokemon back in middle school. This little ceramic figure is a spin off of some of my sketch ideas.

This green tailed figure was created with air dry clay, and painted with acrylic paints. It does have a clear gloss coat to give him a little luster. The long tailed guy is about 3-4 inches long, and 2-3 inches tall. The figure was build piece by piece and then slipped and scored into place.

in the series of chubby creatures, i felt like drawing another one. this combines a mixture of blick art markers (which i use instead of Prismacolor markers now) and prismacolor colored pencils. Some pen and micron pens to do the lines.

Art hunt in St. Louis Park

"The Parktacular Art hunt is back! On June 4th, 2009 ten original artworks will be hidden in the public parks of St. Louis Park and you are invited to find them. Each winner gets to keep the art, and win a prize; awarded at the Parktacular event. To assist hunters, there will be visual clues posted daily on the artist's website,www.williamhessian.com , that will get periodically more revealing each day. The artwork is hidden in plain sight, but finding hidden art is not as easy as it might sound as the miniature 'chubby creature' paintings are only 1 inch by 1.5 inches big. Splash into summer, join in the adventure, get to the parks and find yourself some art!"

The third annual miniature art hunt in St. Louis Park is set to start on June 4th. I team up with Parktacular to hide miniature artwork for the public to find. This is my 13th miniature art hunt across the united states.

Sneak Peak at New Chubby Creatures

In the mad rush of holidays I have been spending my time trying to shop, and draw new art for part of my gifts. Here are three new chubby creatures I am scanning in before I finish and frame them for my family.



The scanner at the library is not very advanced and cuts off portions of my art, therefore I had to put down the green flyer to ensure that the entire drawing would be scanned. In the end it creates a pretty cool border.



One of the best parts about this blog is being able to upload unfinished images, or in progress images on the fly and let you all have a look into the odd things I create on a day to day basis. I have been drawing chubby creatures for years. I have even made a video of hidden chubby creatures at the waterpark of america.



In the future I plan to turn some of these chubby creatures into a running series of collectable miniatures, much like my bearded bunnies series. If you would like to see more of my art, make sure to see my art website.

Hand drawn originals of my little chubby creatures are being sold at my etsy shop. only 5 dollars each. plus, these little fellows were created live at a public park during my art as treasure art tour. Which means these little guys were born on the road.

The reason for putting up all of the art created during my art tour is an attempt to afford gas prices as we perform our 6 art hunts across the country.
