Sketchbook Friday: We Can Rise Again as Animals

I recently and quite randomly came across a book in the Red Wall series by Brian Jacques. This story was about a little mouse in a kingdom who becomes this great warrior. It was quite a fun adventure. I love animal adventures and children's stories. My sketch above is a bit of a philosophy and a bit of a fantasy world. Human-like creatures (or you could say us) begin dressing up and acting as animals or aboriginal tribes. Actively choosing to become bearers of the land and rebelling against the momentary system and other constraints that comes when living within a technological society (or at least our individual killing technological society).

Sometimes I dream of the animal I would choose to transform into myself. I think of the outfit I would create and the noises I would use to communicate. I think of how I would pay attention to the earth and to my surroundings. And then I think how cold and scared I would be and how free I would feel.

What animal would you be? How would you transform yourself?

Each Friday at noon I scan in one new sketch or drawing from one of my many sketchbooks. Many times my sketches are ideas for larger projects that you might find on my fine art website William Hessian dot com, or as projects right here on my Bearded Bunny art blog. If you enjoy these sketches make sure to also see my Favorite 20 sketches from 2011 or go back and check out all of the sketchbook friday posts.

If you want to own some of my work, you can always find great deals on my artwork and stickers at my Etsy shop. Do not forget to subscribe to my blog and never miss another post.

I wish that I would be something sleek and awesome like a cheetah or a unicorn. The reality is I am more like a mother bear. scratch scratch.
