Sketchbook Friday: I am made of squirrels

Sitting in the break room at work, I saw a piece of scrap paper and a pen. I drew this. I thought of some very random word bubbles and then left it behind. I love left behind art, and hidden art. If you follow me around a lot you can collect a whole bunch of random sketches. Each Friday at noon I scan in one new sketch or drawing from one of my many sketchbooks. Many times my sketches are ideas for larger projects that you might find on my fine art website William Hessian dot com, or as projects right here on my Bearded Bunny art blog. If you enjoy these sketches make sure to also see my Favorite 20 sketches from 2011 or go back and check out all of the sketchbook friday posts.

If you want to own some of my work, you can always find great deals on my artwork and stickers at my Etsy shop.  Do not forget to subscribe to my blog and never miss another post.

Announcement: Northville, Michigan Art Hunt in Summer of 2012

The Miniature Art Hunt

June 22-23rd, 2012

The Northville Community Business Association is proud to present the 2nd annual Northville Miniature Art Hunt on Saturday, June 23 during the Arts and Acts festival. Established by artist William Hessian, the free hunt features miniature works of art that will be hidden "in plain sight" inside 10 businesses in downtown Northville. Families as well as individuals are invited to explore these stores and find the work of art.

Similar to letterboxing, the art is left in place when found but finders get their Northville Miniature Art Hunt playing card stamped at each business. When a participant finds all 10 pieces of art and receives 10 stamps, the playing card can be turned into the Art in the Sun Information Booth at Main and Center and redeemed for a prize.

More information and the free Northville Miniature Art Hunt playing cards will be at the Information Booth at Art in the Sun on Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23. The Art Hunt begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 and will conclude that same day at 5:00 p.m. Visitors to the Information Booth will also be invited to "Meet, Greet & Draw" with the artist, William Hessian throughout the weekend.

Hidden art at the Wedge and Robot LOVE

I've hidden art in plain sight at two of my favorite shops in Minneapolis. One is my favorite food co-op called the Wedge and the other is a store selling designer toys and other great art, called Robot LOVE. Those of you familiar with Uptown, Minneapolis will recognize these areas quite well.

While the move to North East Minneapolis has been a fun adventure, I will admit I missed living on Lyndale Ave.

It's always fun to insert free art into the places you love.

Free Hidden Tax Art

This is my second contribution to free art friday, the flickr group I join a few weeks ago. There is a such a great group of artists on that site, and given my extensive history with hidden art, I had to get involved. Here is my latest contribution:

Click images to enlarge. I found a few missing bricks in a massive storage shed, which im not sure is even being used. We found a litter of wild cats living in one of them.

I enjoy this photo since it combines snow, mud, and steel; not to mention the hidden art peeking out of it all. My shoes did get muddy during the hide.

Here are the massive cat barns. Cool old buildings, that are falling apart. fun to look at, probably less fun to own or manage.

Here is a close up of the art. It was acrylic paint on an unused 1040 tax form. Finally, tax forms put to good use.

Underground Hidden Art

When ever i get a few minutes, I try to google or flickr search for hidden art. I have a strong affinity for free hidden art projects, as you probably know from the dozen free miniature art hunts I have done the past 48 months.

In my search today, I found two really amazing artists you should all check out. A mixture of hidden art, graffiti art, political art and much more. I was lucky enough to find them and then spent a good amount of time browsing their work.

The first artist is Sammo371, who is creating amazing art and "Take it! It's Yours" projects hiding his art in odd public locations. I find his work to be exactly the type of thing I love, and think the art, the photos and the way in which he performs the act to be really phenomenal. Here is a great photo with a tiny artwork he has left. Make sure to see more of Sammo's guerrilla art projects

Never2501 was the next artist I found, and find his robots really cool. However, his murals on old abandoned structures are simply breathtaking. It was hard picking out which one to use to show you, but this was one of my favorites. Especially since it is gigantic, and really beautiful. Never2501 also is doing many art projects that directly speak to me, and to my interests, with the hidden art, murals, monsters and robots. There is not much more you can ask for in an artist in my book. Make sure to see more of Never's work.

While browsing those two artists, I then stumbled across one of the coolest sites ever: The Wooster Collective. It is just something you need to go browse for yourself. It may be my new homepage.
