Sketchbook Friday: Toys in the 80s

I love toy culture. Growing up in the incredible 80s toy era I got to grow up enjoying toy lines like; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-man and the Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Battle Beasts, G.I. Joe, Star Wars and X-Men. Much of my artwork has been inspired by my childhood involving all of those toy lines. I love toys, I love blister packs, I love the weapons, I love the articulation, I love the smell of the plastic, I love the art of these toys. This sketch was exploring an idea I keep coming back to, which is making paintings/sculptures of make believe toys. This sketch depicts a few of the ideas I am interested in exploring for this series.

Each Friday at noon I scan in one new sketch or drawing from one of my many sketchbooks. Many times my sketches are ideas for larger projects that you might find on my fine art website William Hessian dot com, or as projects right here on my Bearded Bunny art blog. If you enjoy these sketches make sure to also see my Favorite 20 sketches from 2011 or go back and check out all of the sketchbook friday posts.

If you want to own some of my work, you can always find great deals on my artwork and stickers at my Etsy shop. Do not forget to subscribe to my blog and never miss another post.
